I started writing HOW TO BE HAPPY IF… as a journey to happiness. It’s not that I was deeply unhappy, in fact, people often commented on my good cheer – so maybe I already knew some things intuitively – even though I never articulated them clearly. But I knew my inside didn’t always match my outside. I like coordinated outfits – so this would not do 
.
Also, I knew from my own experience as a published author (“Queens of Comedy”), professor, speaker and singer-songwriter, that striving for my professional goals did not mean that everybody would support me; and my success did not guarantee freedom from stress. As people who are much more famous than me have discovered, sometimes success brings even bigger challenges.
Besides my own creative efforts, I deal with the usual challenges of life: relationships, work, health, money, etc. Handling challenges and creating positive relationships and attitudes takes some real thought, people skills, and practicing “Happiness Habits” . Writing this blog and practicing Happiness Habits has been very helpful to me – and that’s a great reason to keep on doing it!
I hope what I have learned – and am learning – can help you – my readers, viewers, and listeners. At my job, I am a professor. In my life, I have many teachers – famous experts – plus my students, my friends and family, my own experiences, and you – who take the time and trouble to respond to my blog.
The “If” in “How to Be Happy If…” refers to the fact that we face challenges – money, relationships, health, family, etc. – that are sometimes enormous! If we can be happy – or at least balanced and calm – in the face of those challenges, then we can make wise decisions, take effective actions, and lead happier lives. I also believe that Happiness is a Habit – we can learn how, practice, have fun, and reap enormous rewards! So please join me on a wonderful journey and learn HOW TO BE HAPPY IF…
